Academic Papers You May Write in College

If you are presently a university or a college student in the United Kingdom, it is safe to assume that you already knew what type of papers you may write until the end of your academic life. You may have already written some of these academic papers in your pre-college years and had helped writing some of them. What sets apart academic writing in college than any other education levels below it is the fact university students are expected to put in more effort, be more formal and be more informative. These academic papers could become a student’s coursework for a certain subject or course.

For incoming students, however, it may be beneficial to know what type of academic papers they may write throughout their years of stay in college.

• Essays. An essay is a short non-fiction composition work. Almost all subjects and courses require a student to write an essay. Professors often assign essays as raining for larger pieces of academic writing. By writing different types of essays, a student would be forced to develop a number of attributes that he would find useful in later projects, like, clarity and conciseness. Essays could also help a student to develop the necessary research and writing skills for future coursework.

• Term paper. Also called a research paper, the term paper is a written literary work aimed at discussing a certain topic in details with massive input of research information. Unlike an essay, a term paper requires a systematic approach, thus a need to outline a research procedure or methodology.

• Thesis. This coursework is often a requirement for graduation or earning a certain degree. A thesis is a long and intellectual work that attempts to solve a main problem and address certain issues through extensive research. A thesis could be written as prelude to a student’s dissertation in the latter part of his studies.

• Dissertation. This coursework is the lengthier, more tedious and more detailed version of the thesis. Although dissertations are written mostly by graduating master’s student, some universities and colleges require their undergraduates to submit one.
